The start of something new

I'm still so happy the New Year arrived, and I can't stop thinking about my resolutions, or what may be considered restrictions. One of the biggest resolutions I set for myself was to eliminate sugar from my daily intake. Now this doesn't mean I'm going to be checking every label for my favorite ingredient = sugar, but I want to start taking a closer look at how much, what are the added sugar substitutes, and why?

I have this love for sugar.
- I nibble on coffee cake simply for the brown sugar.
- I make coffee in the morning simply for the cream & sugar.
- I stop at snow cone shacks because I crave liquid sugar.
- I enjoy toast best when sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar.
- My first instant messenger name was nothing other than, Sugrgirl.

Point of the matter, sugar is getting the best of me. I'm not one who likes to fail, nor am I one that likes to compete, but it's time I woman-up and truly eliminate something o-so sweet. No more dessert following dinner. I can't sample or buy anything ice-cream related (cones, shakes, etc.) until summer (June 1, 2011), no more peppermint mocha creamer in my coffee, no more cinnamon dulce lattes, no more baking just because I crave cookie dough (this happens a lot), and definitely no more starlight peppermints (another one of my weaknesses), even if I've had a plate full of garlic.

There is nothing better than starting off a project or experiment than on a clean slate, with a new year. Since sugar and I will be taking a break, a much needed one, I'm curious if I'll go through withdrawals similar to a smoker or drug addict? I guess there is no better time to find out than now :)

  1. awwww yay! I'm right there with you! I actually think i'm a little less addicted to sugar... but whenever I think i'm "too good for sugar" I wind up craving and stuffing my face with it! no bueno!

I'm trying to give it up as well! Glad someone else has the same goal as me! Nice to meet you! <3
